JF is seeking a Pathologist's Assistant to support the Clinical Breast Care Project (CBCP) located in Anne Arundel County. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to CBCP.
This position is responsible for routine surgical gross dissection in addition to the collection, archiving and transfer of fresh tissue and blood specimens for research. Assists in the administering of activities required for a successful tissue bank repository. Reports directly to the Head Pathologist, CBCP.
CBCP Research Activities:
Performs gross dissection of a variety of specimens, prioritizing fresh breast specimens for archiving of research samples for the Clinical Breast Care Project.
Performs blood processing and archiving activities.
Assists in preparing cases and associated slides/blocks for review with research pathologist
Maintains daily research logs
Assists with the collection and entry of all specimen-related data for the CBCP database; gathers data and prepares reports.
Assists with ongoing and retrospective clinical/outcome data collection for the CBCP as well as for special projects and collaborations.
Prepares samples for shipment to offsite research facilities.
Orders and maintains inventory of supplies used for research activities
Maintains equipment (freezers, centrifuge)
Responsible for maintaining full compliance with all applicable requirements of the CAP, Department of Defense, Anne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC), JCAHO, and other appropriate regulatory agencies.
Communicates and maintains positive relationships with allied pathology units including the WRAMC CBCP laboratory, AAMC, Windber Medical Center, and other CBCP sites.
Assists pathologist in implementing and monitoring research protocols as they apply to all CBCP tissue banking activities at AAMC.
Maintains communication with OR staff
Works in cooperation with the Research Assistant and Coordinator to carry out CBCP activities.
Attends weekly breast tumor board conferences, clinical and administrative meetings for the CBCP as needed.
Performs data management/entry activities and maintains research files as required by the Clinical Trials Department and IRB at Anne Arundel Medical Center
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge and expertise in working with breast related specimens. Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment and supplies; ability to follow detailed instructions; ability to handle multiple tasks. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Adheres to legal, professional and ethical codes with respect to confidentiality.
Minimum Experience: 2-3 years laboratory experience preferred
Hours: Full-time (40 hours/week). No holidays.
Physical Capabilities: Sustained standing; handling chemical solutions
Required Licenses, Certification or Registration: Certified Pathologists' Assistant (ASCP)
Work Environment: Laboratory environment
Background: Eligibility to obtain Common Access Card (CAC) clearance.
