The Medical Assistant II provides assistance to providers in the offices. This assistance includes but is not limited to data collection for patient intake, assisting with provider/patient needs during procedures and basic documentation of the encounter. The Medical Assistant II is responsible for assisting with clerical activities related to appointment scheduling, patient intake including data verification and office communications.
Performs and documents patient intake (height, weight, head circumference, blood pressure, vision and hearing screening, reason for visit, chief complaint).
Assists providers with procedures, including but not limited to, suturing, suture removal, sterile procedures and minor surgical procedures.
Performs phlebotomy, via capillary techniques, to obtain blood specimens. Transcribe, collect, label and arrange transport for lab specimens. Perform back office laboratory tests.
Enters and/or verifies patient/guarantor demographic and insurance information.
Schedules/cancels/reschedules patients appointments. Appropriately statuses patient in computer system
Obtains authorization for ancillary and specialty services from insurance carriers and documents actions taken appropriately.
Collects payments from patients - including copayments, current charges and prior account balances, posts charges, provides receipts and documents all financial transactions, including charge entry at checkout.
Prepares daily cash reconcilliation and bank deposits. Ensures work queues are up to date.
Must be bilingual - Spanish and English. Fluent in written and spoken English and Spanish.
Non- Essential Functions:
Performs appropriate Quality Control on lab equipment. Monitor waiting room and keeps patient informed as to schedule delays. Checks status of patients waiting more than 10 minutes and advises of progress. Monitors and ensures patient safety and office cleanliness and security. Opens, sorts and routes mail, lab and consult reports. Participates in the departmental and system wide quality assessment and improvement activities.
Administers immuniztions safely and accurately.
Accurately collects vital signs.
Maintains CPR certification.
Works independently andn proactively.
Communicates clearly both verbally and in writing.
Maintains positive professional relationships with providers and coworkers.
Education and Training:
High School diploma
BLS from American Heart Association
Must be Bilingual (Spanish/English)
EPIC Care experience is a plus.
Must be a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program. CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) is preferred.
Must have job related experience.
