The Hospital Paramedic will work under the direction of the designated Emergency Department physician, Hospital Paramedic Medical Director and/or the Clinical Manager/ Director of Emergency Services. Performs care for patient(s) in an expanded scope of practice in accordance with CDPHE, physician's orders, procedures, established standards and administrative policies. Responsible for implementing technical procedures and care to Emergency Department patients safely and effectively. The quality of care and service given will adhere to the philosophy and objectives of Centura Health in order to meet the healthcare needs of patients and their families.
Minimum Education Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum Experience Requirements
Three years of experience as a Paramedic provider in an Emergency department and/or pre-hospital 911 response agency or equivalent
Strong communication skills; ability to read, write, and speak English
Current registered Paramedic with the State of Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE)
BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) from the American Heart Association upon hire
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification upon hire or within six months of hire/transfer date
NRP (Neonatal/Resuscitation Program) preferred; required at free standing Emergency Department ITLS or PHTLS preferred
Advanced Paramedic certification preferred, i.e. CCP-C, FP-C, or TP-C

Collaborates with medicine, nursing and other health care professionals regarding plan of care, follow-up and evaluation for the patient and family.
Performs vital signs and documents in patient chart. *
Administers oxygen, BLS airway adjuncts and rescue airways (King/LMA). *
May insert of Foley catheters upon completion of department training and competency validation.
Performs oral, endotracheal and tracheostomy suctioning. *
Performs IV initiation and removal on all ages including External Jugular location for adult patients. *
Performs initiation of crystalloid fluid via IV, medication drip and vitamin infusions. *
May prepare wound via wound infiltration with or without digital block upon completion of department training and competency validation.
Performs splinting and wound care including dressing and steristrips. *
Responsible for patient specimen collections which may include ABG, IV blood draws, nasal swabs, point of care monitoring, etc. *
Performs suture/staple removal upon completion of department training and competency validation. *
Administers medication per scope of practice and department/hospital policy as approved by the physician. *
Performs intubation, except when RSI medications are being administered. *
Performs 12-Leads. *
Responsible for NG/OG placement and utilization. *
Performs gastric lavage process. *
Responsible for maintenance and monitoring of blood products, and chest tubes upon completion of department training and competency validation.
While under direct supervision of attending physician, may perform the following skills: needle chest decompression, defibrillation, cardioversion, transcutaneous pacing, endotracheal and nasotracheal intubation, and intraosseous line placement. *
Assists physicians with the following skills: moderate/conscious sedation, central line insertions, lumbar punctures, defibrillation, cardioversion, chest tube insertion, thoracentesis, arterial lines, suturing and pelvic exams. *
Accurately and timely documents all tasks, observations, and procedures performed on the patient record according to medical and legal standards. Maintains thorough and confidential maintenance of patient charts and records.
Answers and receives patient report from EMS. *
Receives EMS hand off reports at the facility. *
Trains as relief department secretary. *
Utilizes SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) for communication. *
Assists with quality improvement, safety and regulatory functions as directed. Participates in process change to improve practice.*
Supports and represents the facility's Core Values while performing the role. *
Consistently demonstrates flexibility as evidenced by floating to other areas and is agreeable to work flexible schedules including weekends, holidays, evening and night hours as necessary to meet the needs of the patients and department.
Attend meetings and in-services as required by departmental policy. *
Assists in training other Paramedics, students and/or other hospital personnel.
Demonstrates effective time management and is proactive in prioritizing workload and meeting productivity requirements. *
Adapts to rapidly changing technologies, policies, regulations, census and staffing through priority setting and flexibility. *
