Provide medical assistance to ill, injured, convalescent, and disabled persons in a clinic setting, by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Escort patients to exam rooms to obtain necessary intake information, history and vitals. Document required information in patient’s electronic health record (EHR).
Clean and maintain clinic examination rooms, equipment and instruments.
Assist physicians during treatments, examinations, and minor surgeries.
Provide patient education on various procedures and/or treatments.
Call in or prepare prescriptions and orders in EHR for physicians.
Schedule outside testing and referrals; obtain pre-authorizations as mandated by insurance companies.
Schedule surgeries for physicians. Communicate arrangements with surgery centers and patients.
Inform patients of non-covered items or services and obtain Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) if needed.
Manage EHR inboxes, including but not limited to lab reports, phone calls, and various documents.
Address phone calls and tasks in a timely manner with appropriate documentation.
Request and obtain necessary records for referrals or second opinions prior to the patient’s visit to ensure lab results, radiology testing and progress notes are available for physician review.
Provide front desk coverage as needed, performing duties such as scheduling appointments, registering patients, collecting co-pays and screening phone calls.
Monitor inventory of medical supplies for the clinic on weekly basis and keep exam rooms stocked with supplies on daily basis.
Work closely with medical students.
Participate in and successfully complete all University required training including, but not limited to, discrimination/harassment and code of conduct.
Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Graduate from an accredited medical assistant program required plus current certification (or have certification pending).
Previous clinical experience is a plus, but not required.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Certification as a medical assistant required.
Excellent interpersonal and customer-service skills required.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written; Able to communicate effectively and efficiently in manner appropriate for intended audience;
Demonstrates time management and organizational skills with attention to detail.
Good typing skills.
Basic PC knowledge and skills, including knowledge of Outlook email and calendars and access to Web-based programs.
Able to handle confidential information professionally and ethically.
