Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory Technician, for the DMedical Oncology Department at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
Under direction, performs and assists with technical laboratory procedures and analyses in support of specialized research activities of the laboratory. Assists in the set-up and conducting of experiments as required. Performs other related laboratory duties as required.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Assists in packing, unpacking, storing and classification of lab supplies and specimens.
May give suitable instructions to Laboratory Assistants, Service Workers and other non-professional workers and monitors work of the lab.
Performs standard laboratory procedures, including but not limited to the maintenance of mouse colonies, involved in making required tests and analyses.
Assists with experimentation and research activities.
Assists with the maintenance of the Laboratory facilities, equipment, and instruments.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Associates Degree in a relevant science.
Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be proficient in bench work, tissue culture, and molecular cloning.
Effective oral and communication skills.
Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Computer literacy desirable.
Experience with handling mice.
