The University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine, invites applications for a Medical Technologist position. The position will be available April 13, 2020, and is housed in the Department of Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences. Position requirements are a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology (or related field) from an accredited medical technology or related field. Medical Technologist certification through the American Society of Clinical Pathology is preferred. The person in this position will join existing staff in the Veterinary Medical Center's Clinical Pathology Laboratory, which currently include four other ASCP-certified medical technologists, one laboratory assistant, three faculty board-certified in veterinary clinical pathology, and one to two clinical pathology residents. The laboratory serves the Veterinary Medical Center (small and large animal hospitals) and local and regional veterinary practices, with an approximate testing volume of 21,000 samples annually. The person will, under supervision, learn to perform routine and specialized clinical laboratory tests (both automated and manual) on veterinary specimens in the areas of hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, hemostasis, and preparation of cytologic samples for evaluation by a pathologist. This will be a regular, full-time position with full benefits. Work hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and once a month on Saturday morning, 7:30 a.m. to noon. Four times per year (during midterm and final exam weeks of each fall and spring semester), the staff member may additionally be asked to cover after-hours on-call for one to several shifts.
